Coming up with ideas for blogs

If you are a blogger, you know how hard it can be to come up with fresh and engaging ideas for your posts. Sometimes, you feel like you have written about everything there is to write about, and you are stuck in a rut. But do not worry, there are ways to get out of it and find new inspiration for your blog. Here are some tips on how to come up with ideas for blogs.

1. Other Blogs

Read other blogs and articles and coalesce the information in them into one blog. One of the best ways to find new ideas is to see what others are writing about. You can browse through blogs in your niche, or explore topics that interest you. You obviously should not copy what they say, but you can use their content as a starting point for your own.

For example, you can summarize the main points of several articles on the same topic, and add your own perspective or opinion. Or you can compare and contrast different views or approaches on a subject, and explain which one you prefer and why. This way, you can create a unique and informative blog that draws from multiple sources.

2. Repurpose old blogs.

Another way to come up with ideas is to revisit your old blogs and see if you can update them, expand them, or spin them in a new way. Maybe there is a blog that you wrote a long time ago that needs some fresh information or examples. Or maybe there is a blog that you can split into two or more parts, and go into more detail on each aspect. Or maybe there is a blog that you can turn into a different format, such as a video, a podcast, or an infographic. By repurposing your old blogs, you can give them new life and reach new audiences.

Plus there may always be mistakes in your old blogs. You can help others, that are now currently making the same mistake, understand what is wrong with their line of thought and why.

3. Old Stuff

Find things you have touched on peripherally in old blogs. Sometimes, when you write a blog, you mention something briefly that could be a topic on its own. For example, maybe you wrote a blog about how to start a podcast, and you mentioned some of the tools and equipment that you use. That could be a potential idea for another blog, where you go into more depth on the best tools and equipment for podcasting.

Or maybe you wrote a blog about how to travel on a budget, and you mentioned some of the places that you visited. That could be an idea for another blog, where you share your travel experiences and tips for each destination.

4. Trends

Try to understand what is popular at the moment, why and how to add to the information already floating around it. The obvious places to check for trends are the top social media apps, where they generally start going around. But, you could also check out forums, communities, or more niche websites where your target audience hangs out, and see what questions they have or what problems they face. Then, you can write a blog that addresses those topics, and provides value or insight that is not already available elsewhere.

For example, if there is a new product or service that everyone is raving about, you can write a review or a tutorial on how to use it. Or if there is a hot debate or controversy going on in your niche, you can write a blog that takes a stance or offers a solution.

5. Advice

Ask those that have read your posts what they wanna hear about. Whether that means asking on social media or real life. You can get started by creating polls or surveys on your blog or social media channels, or by inviting feedback or suggestions in your comments section or email newsletter.

Could also ask your friends, family, or colleagues what topics they would be interested in reading about on your blog. Or any blog. Maybe there is something they are interested in generally, or some blog they have read themselves. Plenty of opportunities here. You could also hit them with different ideas you have been considering and gauge their reaction, ask for their opinion, etc.
