Mistakes in Blogging V

Seasoned bloggers and novices alike often find themselves grappling with common pitfalls that can hinder the effectiveness of their message. This quick guide aims to dissect five prevalent mistakes, offering simple recommendations to help offer a stronger blogging presence. We have also discussed some other blogging mistakes in the past. Those posts you can see here (1, 2).

1. Vague Intro

The introduction of your blog is not merely a precursor; it is a pivotal element that shapes the readers entire experience. A common misstep is the tendency to be overly vague, leaving readers in a state of uncertainty regarding the purpose and trajectory of the piece.

To counter this, invest time in crafting a compelling and crystal-clear introduction that not only tries to grab their attention but also provides a roadmap for what lies ahead. Setting clear expectations is useful for readers in terms of understanding what they should look out for. This is especially true for longer blogs.

2. Too Many Visuals

Visual elements undoubtedly play a crucial role in enhancing the aesthetic appeal of a blog. However, an excess of images or multimedia can inadvertently overwhelm readers and detract from the written content. Striking a careful balance should be a priority, where each visual serves a purpose in reinforcing your narrative rather than competing with it. If it does not somehow aid your narrative, or act simply as a tool for the readers to rest their eyes, it should be omitted.

Quality over quantity should be your guiding principle. Hardly anyone frequently checks out blogs because of the pictures it contains. Sure infographics and actual works by highly skilled designers are cool to look at, but if you are not offering those, best stick to less is more.

3. Corporate Tone

In the pursuit of professionalism, bloggers sometimes adopt a formal or corporate tone, creating a noticeable disconnect with their audience. It is crucial to remember that blogs are inherently more personal and conversational.

Aim for a tone that resonates with your audience, making your content approachable and relatable. Authenticity in your writing fosters a deeper connection with readers, no one wants to read a soulless ad.

4. Unanswered Questions

A well-crafted blog should be a comprehensive journey, leaving readers feeling informed and satisfied, not grappling with lingering questions. Approach your blog from the readers perspective and meticulously ensure that you have addressed all essential points.

That does not mean you have to go into every single possible question. It comes with experience, or knowledge of the topic/your audience, you will better understand what should be addressed and what should be left omitted. Which is tied to our next point.

5. Answer Depth

Balancing the depth of information is not that easy and as we mentioned, it requires a nuanced understanding of your content and audience. While some questions demand a detailed exploration, others benefit from a more concise treatment. Striking the right balance ensures that your blog remains focused.

Be strategic in choosing where to delve deep, showcasing your expertise without overwhelming the audience. Include links instead of certain discussions if you still wanna get something across.
